God’s Faithfulness

September 1st, 2010

For many months now, our family has been having a weekly prayer time on Sunday evenings. It usually takes an hour to go around the room as we pour our hearts out to the Lord. Recently, Mom began keeping a journal on her computer of what the prayer needs were. She reads whatever the requests had been the week before, and then we discuss what the answers are that we’ve seen. Then, we share new requests. Amazingly, week after week, we see answer after answer filling in. It has opened my eyes to how many things the Lord has answered, and how ungrateful I’ve been in the past!

Are you aware of all the Lord is doing in your life? If not, maybe you would be blessed to begin a family prayer journal! I remember one request heavy on all our hearts Sunday night, and the Lord answered it quickly. Praise the Lord!

We did have another stop just confirmed yesterday, Crawfordville, Florida, for Tuesday, September 21st. Crawfordville is about 30 minutes south of Tallahassee. We have another stop possibly pending as well.

And yes, what’s a blog post without pictures? Those middle-of-the-night driving-through-the-night, though, are the ones I can’t quite get a good picture. We had an old, dead tree fall over this morning, so Jesse and Joseph took care of it. It was Jesse’s first time with the chainsaw.

Life

August 30th, 2010

Life is staying at a high-paced speed for us at the Maxwell house. As our trip-counter ticks down, again, we don’t need to consult the calendar to know it’s quickly approaching. The number of “trials” happening remind of us the unseen spiritual battle in progress. We would be very grateful for your prayers as we prepare for this next trip. May Jesus be glorified in everything!

On the bright side, we’ve continued to add new stops to the trip, with the latest new additions being–

To view the whole trip, click here.

Here are a few pictures of this past week.

The generator was not cooling adequately when running the a/c's and driving. We need to try to improve that since we are heading south and it is still very warm there.

No, Dad's not painting the bus, rather, he's preparing it for a new windshield. Lots of dish soap to help the new windshield slide in better.

Very messy "painting" the soap.

We noticed the windshield on the driver's side was cracked earlier in the week, and it hadn't been that way while driving. It obviously happened after we were home. It's called a "stress" crack when the forces in the bus alone cause the crack.

Holding on to that windshield! Praise the Lord we are actually getting faster replacing them and we didn't break it putting it in. We did learn that the earlier ones we had trouble installing were defective as they were slightly larger than they were supposed to be.

Working with the dashboard. The year-old sun visors began having problems on the last trip and the replacements meant a change in wiring. We found the problem one week before the warranty expired. Thank You, Lord. Normally, it is one week after the warranty expired. (smile)

Sewing--oh yes! Lots and lots of sewing as Mom, Anna, and Mary work on bridesmaids dresses.

Another Nursing Home Church

August 27th, 2010

It was a delight to be able to attend our friends’ nursing home church Sunday morning! We enjoyed talking to all their dear friends and learning about them. The service was just wonderful!

Special times!

August 26th, 2010

Now that we’re back home we have enjoyed seeing Nathan, Melanie, and the girls! Things are busy as we unpack, but we have found a few moments here and there to run over for some Abby and Bethany time! Bethany is so cute and of course everyone loves their turns holding her. Abigail is growing fast and is now a little chatterbox. She scampers here and there talking about the bus and going by-by or whatever else she finds interesting at that time. She is also very happy that we are home for a little while.

How sweet!

We really missed Abby!

God’s Protection

August 24th, 2010

Just a “blog thank you” note to express our gratefulness for your prayers for our traveling home. We saw two specific times where the Lord protected us from an accident, and those are only two that we clearly saw: there may have been others.

Yesterday, when we were in Ogden, Utah, a dump truck came within inches of side-swiping the bus. John was in the back bedroom and said if he’d had a sponge, he could’ve washed the side of the truck :-) . We praise the Lord for His protection!

Then, as we motored along across Wyoming, we decided to stop for the 50 cent cones at Little America outside of Rock Springs. As we pulled off the exit, something caught Dad’s eye on the interstate, and what looked like a small explosion from a truck that we were about to pass, had we not taken the exit. Something flew off of the truck up into the air and landed in the grass and the truck crossed from the right lane into the median and came to a dusty halt.

As we looked from Little America we could see the left front fender of the truck had been destroyed from a high speed tire blowout.  Our hearts were filled with gratitude for the Lord’s protection, as it was very likely we would have been passing that truck when the tire blew and the fender flew apart. The truck would have likely hit the bus as it crossed traffic heading for the median. Amazing our Lord’s protection!

Sarah for all the rest!

“Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word” (Psalms 119:114).

22 Hours and 1300+ Miles Later

August 24th, 2010

We are now home! Praise the Lord for bringing us home safely. One member of the family slept a normal amount, but the rest of us got a few hours. So, sleep is needed for most, and then we’ll tackle other projects!

Still Driving…

August 24th, 2010

John is now driving, and Anna, Jesse, and I are keeping him company! :-) It’s a beautiful morning, and the moon is giving enough light that it makes it interesting as we can see a bit of the countryside.

Sarah

“For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me” (Psalms 31:3).

Driving On

August 23rd, 2010

It’s now 11 p.m., and we’re still driving :-) . Dad felt led to continue on tonight, so that’s what we’re doing. John is sleeping so that he can drive when Dad get’s too tired. Having 2 drivers is very nice! We would appreciate prayer as we travel through the night, with an estimated arrival time back home around 7 a.m.

Sarah

“He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler” (Psalms 91:4).

The Conference

August 23rd, 2010

I love my family :-)

This weekend’s Christ-Led Family conference was another incredible blessing. We’ve missed being on the road and giving conferences the last few months.

The Lord brought a wonderful group out for Friday evening, and we were thrilled to share. We were able to do more songs, since this was a longer session.

Saturday dawned bright and early for many of us who had last minute details for workshops and other responsibilities.

Dad and Mom gave Harnessing the Power of a Team together for the first time. Dad’s been giving this new session by himself previously due to the lack of time to make it so they could do it together. They spent much time on Friday working on it, and the Lord really had His hand on that session. It went very well!

The Young Men's Session

Giving the Anger Session

The balloon session was a highlight for the children. Due to a memorable first-time experience, we have now learned the lesson of splitting the young people/children into two groups: one 10 and under, and the other 10 and up. To prepare for this session, many, many balloons were pumped up the hour before the session since there isn’t time to prepare hundreds of balloons at the moment they’re needed. Christopher led the older group while Joseph led the other group with help from several young adults. Joseph did a great job, and the Lord gave him an incredible idea to clean up the inevitable popped balloons: every child, as they were leaving, needed to pick up five pieces of balloon. The clean up was taken care of in an exciting way for the children :-) .

August 23rd, 2010

The driving is going well–we passed Rock Springs, Wyoming a while ago. I thought ya’ll might enjoy a recent picture! Conference report will be posted next.

We love seeing these windmills.

“Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty. Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain: Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind” (Psalms 104:1-3).

On Our Way Home

August 23rd, 2010

After a delightful week in Idaho, we had to say good-bye to our dear friends and head home. Home for just a little while, as we will only be home for a bit over two weeks before we head off again for two weeks. Lots to do in the meantime! :-)

We have some blogging to catch up on; we’ll be doing that as we’re able!

We would be grateful for your prayers as we make the trek back home!

An Old Mining Town

August 21st, 2010

Anna, CathyJo, Sarah, and Mary

On Thursday, our friends took us to a little “city” up in the Owyhee Mountains. Dad and Christopher stayed behind (sadly, Dad would have enjoyed coming, but working on his sessions took top priority).

You couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day. The surrounding countryside, covered with trees (including aspen), the mountains, the crisp blue skies with puffy clouds were just like Colorado. Thank You, Lord!

An old abandoned house!

Taking a break on our way up to Silver City, and we did some photos. Here's a running shot.

August 17th, 2010

We love you!

We’re celebrating Mom’s birthday a second time in Idaho today.

We love you very much, and we are so grateful for you being our mom and the most wonderful wife to Daddy! Not to mention a  special Grandma :-) . You have also blessed countless ladies across the world.

Happy Birthday!

“A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband” (Proverbs 12:4).

A Special Stop

August 16th, 2010

We drove through beautiful Wyoming today, up through Utah, and finally into Idaho. I requested a stop earlier this afternoon to be able to take pictures of the family, and Dad remembered we were close to a place we had stopped at about five years ago. We had walked to the top of a hill, which was very scenic.

The drive has gone well yesterday and today. We did stay the night in Cheyenne, and we woke up to mist/fog. We began our driving around 7, with an estimated arrival in the Boise area around 7 tonight. Wednesday afternoon, Dad has a radio interview in Boise about the conference, and we’ll be staying at a family’s house in the meantime.

Thank you for praying for us :-) .

Meeting Bethany

August 15th, 2010

Bethany

Abby was first introduced to Bethany Saturday morning during a video chat. Abby heard Bethany before they brought the baby into view on the screen.

Wonder... Amazement... The Baby is Here!

Aunt Mary and Abby made a welcome sign, and here Abby's posing with it. She was anxiously awaiting Daddy and Mommy's arrival.

On the Road Again!

August 15th, 2010

Bethany made her appearance just in time for us to see her before we left for Idaho! We had a precious time of meeting her last night, and this morning, after church, we are on our way to Boise. It’s been quite a whirlwind, but the bus is in great, working order, the baby’s here, Abigail is back with Daddy and Mommy, and we hope we haven’t forgotten too many things.

We would appreciate your prayers as we travel many, many miles over the next day and a half. We plan to stop for the night in Cheyenne, Wyoming this evening.

Bethany Faith Update (With Pictures)

August 15th, 2010

–Another shorter update…. Bethany is now home and doing great. Our original goal had been to be at the hospital a minimal amount of time after delivery. Long enough to ensure mom and baby were stable, and then home.

Ironically, that’s exactly how it worked out. There were a number of changes/adaptions in how this baby was born (I’ll write more about that later… short story is no c-section!). And yet, by the time Bethany was 24 hours old, she was resting comfortably in her bassinet in our room.

Thank you for your prayers. I don’t know that I can communicate the challenges of the delivery in a blog post, but I will try at a later date. We were so in need of prayer support. My sister Sarah told me she was heavily impressed to pray at 11:06 pm (cst) last night. I can’t say exactly to the second, but I know confidently that was within minutes of when we were coming up against a wall and needing God’s direction. He proved faithful to carry all of us through.

There was a NICU crash cart (supplies for trauma) sitting in the hallway. We passed it doznes of times as we walked laps. I remember often praying as we passed it, “God, can we please not need anything in that cart for this baby.” It never entered our room (or least I didn’t see it), and I don’t think it ever even left it’s parking spot. Praise the Lord!

He was gracious to us these past few days. All challenges aside, we have a Bethany Faith to hold and to love and are rejoicing in God’s goodness.

Gratefully,

Nathan

In Labor

August 13th, 2010

Quick update on Melanie. Dr. did induce this morning. Took awhile for things to kick in, but she is now in tangible labor. We are both very happy, well, at this point I’m the happy one; Melanie is a bit distracted.

It was amazing; we gave our approval to the Dr. yesterday morning for induction. Before he had a chance to, he got called to another hospital and didn’t return till this morning. While Melanie’s body didn’t kick in on its own during that time, God must have had a special reason to delay by 24 hours. Only He could have orchestrated that. It served as a reminder that we are passengers observing and experiencing His plan. Paraphrasing, man plans his course but the Lord determines his steps.

It’s exciting to be at this point, waiting to meet a little one….

Nathan

“I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly” (Psalms 22:10).

No “Real” News!

August 13th, 2010

Thank you all for praying; we wanted to update, as we know you all are praying and wondering if there is any news yet. We all thought there would be by now :-) . Suffice it to say, the doctor was not able to get over to the hospital where Melanie was at last night due to another patient. So, they wait, and we all wait. In the meantime, Abby, who is used to being with her mama all the time, is doing extremely well and enjoying the attention all her aunts, uncles, and grandparents afford her.

Please continue to pray. Hopefully Baby Max will make his/her appearance today!

Sarah for the rest

Baby Update

August 12th, 2010

Wow, alot has happened in the last 24 hours. Let’s start with earlier this week….celebration….38 weeks. There was a significant lessening of pressure regarding this child/pregnancy. I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders when the concern over baby coming early was no longer an issue.

Wednesday was a standard OB appointment. Sadly, that appointment found dilation. A few more checks throughout the remainder of the day found continued progress. Oddity was that it was not accompanied by active labor. We’ve been there, done that… but never at this late of a stage gestationally.

Fast forward to today…. due to a number of circumstances, we are faced with the option of “helping” labor start or it kicking in on it’s own. Obviously, our goal is to let baby (ultimately, the Lord) direct Melanie’s body on when to start. If that doesn’t happen within the next number of hours, it will get some help.

Our prayer request would be that things would start on their own, and if not God would guide and bless during the “help.”

I know the details are scarce here and that for those who are intervention averse (that would include us :) ), second guessing is easy. Please know that we have exhausted all other reasonable options.

We are simply seeking God’s will and His direction and asking for prayer.

Nathan

“For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me and guide me” (Psalms 31:3).

The bus work has been in full swing this week.

A big job has been the lock on the door. We’ve been having great trouble with it, so much so that you literally had to slam yourself against the door to apply pressure and then lock it. I was always glad when a strong brother was round to help! Dad’s been praying about a good solution, as it wasn’t as easy as “1-2-3 install a new lock”! Here it is in varying stages.
