Florida Osprey

Florida Osprey

The osprey is a bird of prey that primarily eats a diet of fish, and we saw a number of osprey near the guest house. This one was not very interested in posing for a picture! About a block from the guest house there was an active osprey nest.

And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes,
and birds of the air have nests;
but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.  (Luke 9:58)

From a distance, the osprey can look similar to a bald eagle; one significant difference is the dark stripe near the eyes.

    These birds are so majestic, aren’t they? These photos are beautiful. We have an osprey nest close to our neighborhood — it’s enormous, and sits on top of a cell phone transmitter tower. It is fun to watch the adult birds fly and hunt, then come back and feed the babies (their little heads poking up out of the nest).
