If Only You Knew…

What a JOY our little fellowship of believers is :-) . I took some pictures last week (and one picture is from the week before), and I thought we’d share them with ya’ll.

Joseph and Jesse are our faithful sound guys. Sound is very important to the elderly being able to hear :-) . Joseph and Jesse set up each week and then tear down afterwards.

A Bright Spot in Their Day

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

Our family took Tuesday to drive up to Omaha to visit Gram, Daddy’s mom, who lives in an assisted living facility. We planned to play/sing for the people there right after lunch. We were happy to take Uriah out, after being home for a few weeks :-) .

Right after lunch, Dad suggested some of the family get their instruments out and start playing them, and maybe the elderly would stay around. So, the children set to work, tuning up and preparing. You would think from this picture we were getting ready for a patriotic program, but we weren't :-). That was just where Anna happened to be when I took the picture.

Black vs Stainless Steel Followup

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

All the information concerning black and stainless steel appliances was very helpful, and we are grateful that you would share your experience with us. Based on what we have read and our personal preference for stainless steel, we are planning to shop for stainless steel appliances on Monday. We will look into the “clean steel,” but we already know that the range we are getting (a GE with two ovens in it) only comes in the regular stainless steel.

When I read through your experiences, I was feeling like it was a toss up – some preferred black and some stainless steel. I went over to spend some time with Abigail on Wednesday, and Melanie told me she thought from the blog posts that we would pick stainless steel. I asked her why that was. She said, “Well, there were many people who had stainless steel and love their appliances but no one that loved their black ones.” I thought that was very insightful reading. Then she asked, “What color do you and Dad prefer?” My response was, “Stainless steel.”

From reading your blog posts and you telling me how you clean your stainless steel appliances, I think I am prepared to take care of the stainless steel when we get moved in and begin using them – assuming the Lord doesn’t change our hearts between now and our purchase.

“Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established” (Proverbs 15:22).

Appliances: Black or Stainless Steel?

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

We could use some input from the experience of those of you who read our blog. On Monday, Steve and I will be shopping for our appliances. We are choosing between stainless steel and black. Either would look good in our kitchen. We would go with stainless steel except for everyone saying that they are hard to keep clean, and they would never want them with a large family.

For those who have stainless steel, what do you think of them? How do they look on a daily basis? How often do you clean them and with what?

What about those same questions for those with black appliances?

Has anyone had both colors and had a basis of comparison between the two?

As we prayerfully make this decision, we could be grateful for whatever we could glean from your personal experience with black and stainless steel appliances.

Trusting Jesus,

Teri

Now, the house is almost done! We are possibly a month away from moving in :-) . Here are some recent pictures.

John and Joseph recently got cell phones, and it is amazing how often we need to call each other. We do not have a land-line phone at the new house yet.

Moody Pictures

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

It’s a true joy to hear from children and families who are enjoying the Moody Family Series. Often children will come up at a conference to talk to Sarah, and then she tries to get a picture with them when possible. We thought we’d post a few pictures from some of the conferences. We also receive quite a few e-mails sharing how the Moody books are having an impact on children’s lives. We received permission to use this one:

“Next to his Bible, the Moody books are his favorite books. He carries them with him everywhere. Every time we get in the car, he gets a couple of his Moody books and puts them in his book bag. I’ve lost count of how many times he has read them. I thought it might bless you to know that yesterday he asked me if I thought he could have the Moody books in Heaven to read!!”

Sarah’s desire is that the Lord will use these Moody books to draw children closer to the Lord Jesus and encourage them to be more obedient and helpful to their parents. She hopes to start writing on the fifth book (Another Summer with the Moodys) this next month.

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8).

A Special Blessing

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

You may not have noticed the absence of Mom and I this last week, but, Mom and I went on a trip to visit some family friends in Alaska! The trip was a special surprise, so we hadn’t publicly said anything about it beforehand.

Mom and I flew out of Atlanta the same day the family left for home. We had a blessed time traveling together, although we sorely missed the family. We spent a week up in Alaska, enjoying fellowship and God’s beautiful, frozen, wintry creation. We arrived safely home yesterday afternoon, after a 2 a.m. flight back :-) .

I’m very grateful to the family for all the work they did. Not only did they have all of the normal home life to take care of with Mom and I gone, but they also had all the trip aftermath. A special thanks to Annie who stepped in to do what I normally do.

I Love Living in Kansas!

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

I have to confess that I have had a poor attitude at times about winter weather. On days with bad weather I would often remark negatively to the family or in small talk with someone I would meet out around town.

The Lord has been convicting me of that and I’m so grateful that He has. He has convicted me of my sinful attitude about it. Isn’t God so merciful? He is the One Who created our world and its weather. In Genesis 8:22 we read, “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” The Lord was committing to Noah that He would not smite every living thing as He did in the flood again. When I read verse 22 it was a reminder that God gave us the cold and the heat. I was having a bad attitude about something that God designed.

So now as I experience our Kansas winter I’m thankful for it. If it is from my Lord, it is to be received with thanksgiving. I know that in Kansas we have four seasons, none of which are too long. Then during the winter we will have days where the temperature is in the 50’s and 60’s just like this week. In the heat of the summer, we will have refreshingly cool days come along that break up the warmer days.

Repentance is a good thing and if you ever hear me complain about the weather, a gentle admonition is in order and I will thank you. Our God is so good isn’t He?

“And thou shalt rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God hath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the Levite, and the stranger that is among you.” Deuteronomy 26:11

We Are Home!

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

We left the Atlanta hotel this morning at 6:15 am and arrived home tonight at 7:30 pm. Officially it was around 850 miles and God gave us a very pleasant ride. It was sunny and at times a bit windy, but we were blessed.

I had not been looking forward to I-70 Sunday night traffic which can be quite heavy. However it was wonderful. The only thing I would attribute the lack of traffic to was the Super Bowl. Sadly, as we drove by churches, their Sunday evening services looked to be very light crowds.

Thank you for praying. Now to begin putting things away and getting caught up.

Our hearts are very full and blessed in the Lord allowing us to share with so many who had a desire to be challenged and encouraged. We loved our time of fellowshipping with those who attended.

The Lord is so good.

Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. 1 Chronicles 29:11

Atlanta Conference Report

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

Thursday night in Savannah, Georgia, was a late night due to the conference there. The next morning we were up early and rolling by 7:15 a.m. on our way to Atlanta. Dad knew the traffic in Atlanta can be a problem and wanted to make sure we had plenty of time in case of a slow down.

The weekend conference in Atlanta was held at a very large church, in a part of the building that was similar to a convention center. Below that were large classrooms that worked perfectly for the break-out sessions on Saturday.

As usual, Friday afternoon was spent setting up the book tables and preparing for music that evening. The sound setup turned out to be very challenging! But the Lord blessed the music session despite the challenges.

Sometimes people will ask specific questions about an instrument after the music session, and we always enjoy visiting with others who play the same instruments!

We so enjoy the opportunity to share, and as we sang and gave testimony to the Lord Jesus Christ, it was with the realization that it was our final evening of sharing on this trip. Afterwards we enjoyed visiting with quite a few of the families that were able to attend.

Saturday morning started early (we left the hotel at 7:15 a.m.!) and was a full day with lots of sharing packed into a very small amount of time proportionate to how much and what is shared. Hearts were receptive and it was a very blessed day. I (Christopher) remember talking with one father during a break in the sessions who shared how good the day had been for him and for his family, even though some of what was shared was heavy!

We are so grateful to the home school group that hosted the conference. They worked very hard to prepare for the conference, and went out of their way in providing meals and even a Georgia-themed gift basket for us. Thank you!

Today we were up and rolling by 6:05 a.m.! But it didn’t feel quite as early as the past few days because we were in bed (very) early last night! We are planning to (Lord willing) drive the approximately 850 miles from Atlanta to home today. As we’ve been driving through Kentucky we have been seeing vast amounts of broken trees from the ice storms. We’ve even seen a number of power lines that were down.

We are looking forward to being home and seeing Grandad, Grandma, Nathan, Melanie — but especially Abigail! And Grandma mentioned in an e-mail that she hasn’t told Honey (our aging Golden Retriever) about us coming home tonight, as she doesn’t want Honey to spend all day panting with excitement!

What a Smile!

Sunday, February 1st, 2009
Our final conference of this trip concluded yesterday, and we were overwhelmed at the goodness of the Lord. We’ll be posting a confernece update soon. Today is a fairly long day on the road as we drive from Atlanta to home.
