Fellowship On the Road

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

This trip, we have had several opportunities to spend a bit of time with some friends. As time and our route allows, we enjoy these sweet times of fellowship.

A Gorgeous Day to be Driving

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

The weather has cooled off, and we’re enjoying a beautiful, sunny day, with the wind whistling through several open windows.

We finished the Tampa area conference last night, and we began our drive to Alabama this morning, after a good night’s rest. We are currently driving just past Atlanta. Our conference coordinator and her friend provided dinner beforehand last night. The Lord’s blessing was again evident throughout the evening!

A Miracle

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Following the worship service last Sunday morning I had a few moments to visit with a lady and her mother. The lady walked with great difficulty (even with the help of a walker), and yet she was full of joy and expressed tremendous gratitude for our sharing that morning.

As I visited with them, I found out what had happened: 15 years ago she was in a terrible auto accident. The doctors didn’t think she would live. She was in a coma for 5 months. The doctors then said that if she ever did wake up she would be “a vegetable”. Yet, God worked a miracle.

While she was in the hospital her unbelieving father visited her. He was gloriously saved. And the next day he stepped into eternity. “God used my accident to save him before he died!” she said.

We were praising God for what He has done, and I told her what a blessing it was to see her willingness to be used of God, for we know that God uses people. She again said that it was God who had done the miracle!

Talking with the lady who almost died in a car accident 15 years ago, and who, even now, can only walk with great difficulty. Yet she is a living testimony that God still works miracles.

Talking with the lady who almost died in a car accident 15 years ago, and who, even now, can only walk with great difficulty. Yet she is a living testimony that God still works miracles.

As I was thinking back to our conversation, I realized that there are many people who want God to work a miracle in their life, but I think we often have different ideas of what a miracle would look like. How many of us would be excited to go through “the miracle” that this lady has gone through? And would come through bearing the physical limitations and continuing day-by-day suffering, yet still rejoicing in what God has done?

“But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, ‘With men this is impossible;
but with God all things are possible.’”(Matthew 19:26)

A Surprise Family and a Wonderful Conference

Another weekend conference is completed, and our hearts are again full of what the Lord Jesus has done. Remember how I said in a recent blog post about sometimes seeing families we haven’t seen for awhile suddenly appear at a conference? Well, Friday, before the conference, Dad was walking down the hallway and a dear family we had met in North Carolina was just stepping out of the fellowship hall! Dad was very surprised and delighted!

We are grateful to the Burke County Homeschool Care Group and Hebron Baptist church for hosting the conference and all they did for it. They provided a meal before the conference Friday evening as well.

Hearts seemed open and receptive to what was shared, and we pray the Lord will bring lasting fruit in the lives of those who attended.

Georgia Wetlands

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

The scenery has been somewhat plain as we drive on I95 from Georgia down into Florida for the conference Monday evening at Satellite Beach (near Melbourne). But, we have enjoyed seeing the wetlands and waterways along the roadway: signs of how close we are to the ocean.

In the Sunny, Warm South

Friday, September 25th, 2009

A true sign we’re in the south: we saw our first lizard on this trip.

Set up for the conference went well last night: each of us pitching in with our normal responsibilities. One neat thing on these trips is that occasionally a family we haven’t seen for a long time will surprise us and show up at a conference. Last night, a family we haven’t seen in 5 years came! What a delight to be able to fellowship for a little while.

Before the conference, the coordinator and several other ladies provided a meal for us. We’re asking for a few of the recipes, so it’ll make A Taste Away from Home for sure!

We’re looking forward to our third weekend conference (out of five) this weekend in Waynesboro, Georgia. Please be in prayer that the Lord Jesus will work in all of our hearts.

We’re thoroughly enjoying living on the bus. This morning was one of our first “free” mornings; we’re here in Sumter, South Carolina. We made a quick trip in to WalMart (where we parked), and schoolwork is being done, computer work, music practice, and even a little wiring work.

Kentucky and Ohio Conferences

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Monday evening, we did a conference in Wilder, Kentucky (right outside of Cincinnati). We’re grateful for the coordinators providing dinner for us beforehand. We had a last-minute change of rooms, and people pitched in to help move things around. Several friends came to the conference, and it was a delight to see them. We’re looking forward to going back for a weekend conference November 6th and 7th.

Last night’s conference in Cleveland had been scheduled only about two weeks ago, yet they had worked hard to get the word out, and we had a nice attendance. Six families from the Deuteronomy 6 group and our coordinator blessed us with dinner–a big “thank you.”

Creation Museum

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

We enjoyed several hours at the Creation Museum on Monday. This was the second time we have visited it, and we were looking forward to going there again. We are particularly blessed by the way Scripture is continually brought into the displays and presentations. We also learn many details about how science can support creationism. This time there had been a petting zoo that had been added since our previous visit, including some animals not usually found in petting zoos. Our favorite part of the Creation Museum remains the planetarium. We are grateful to those who made it possible for us to go to the museum.

Another wonderful weekend…

Monday, September 21st, 2009

We just finished up a wonderful weekend conference in Jacksonville, Arkansas (north of Little Rock). Many families drove a distance to attend, including three families from Texas! We were so blessed by Military Road Baptist Church and their hospitality in allowing us to use their facility.

Hearts were soft and tender throughout the weekend, and we were all blessed beyond measure. It overwhelms us that families will take their precious weekend time to attend these conferences. Thank you to each family who came!

We’re looking forward to a full week ahead:

God Uses a Chihuahua

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Our plans were to be in Cincinnati tonight and parked outside a brother’s house to enable us to go to the Creation Museum first thing Monday morning. After the conference last night, we decided to get a little ways down the road, but not too far, since we’re usually drained after a conference. We drove an hour and a half, and stayed in a Wal-Mart parking lot, in preparation for leaving this morning.

During my Bible time, I felt the very strong prompting that God wanted us in a church to worship this morning. As I was praying and trying to discern what He was saying, it became clear. Prior to the conference Friday night, I had a very good prayer time with the pastor of the church who hosted the conference. And after the prayer time and talking, the Lord encouraged me to tell him that if I could ever help them in some way, to please let me know. At the end of the conference, the pastor was speaking to one of the children, and he mentioned to them that he was really hoping we would stay and take the Sunday service for the church.

When we were about to leave, he mentioned it to me. I shared that we had plans to be in Cincinnati Sunday night, and we needed to be going. During my prayer time this morning, and sorting through what the Lord was trying to get my attention on, He reminded me of both my statement (doing whatever I could to help) and the pastor’s desire, even though it wasn’t a direct request, to minister to his body of believers. So, I called him, about 7:30 this morning, to see if that was still his heart, but no one answered. I waited about five more minutes, and decided to try him one more time. No answer.

Right then, my phone rang, and it was the pastor calling back. I answered it and shared with him that I wondered if the Lord wanted us to drive the hour and a half back to the church to minister there this morning. He readily agreed that it was still the desire of his heart, and he would welcome that.

So, back we went, arriving in time to set up. He gave the service to us, which included singing several songs plus the message and invitation. During the service, the pastor shared with everyone how God wants us to use us all. This morning, He even used a Chihuahua. The pastor doesn’t usually answer his phone until before church, but this morning their dog did something he’s not done before. He started barking at the phone, which was upstairs. The pastor noticed the missed calls, and he returned my call, which enabled us to be there in time for the service. We were greatly blessed by being with their fellowship this morning, and for the lesson that I had to learn in the process.

We are still planning on going to the museum tomorrow… (Sarah will post a weekend conference report later!).

Heading up into the mountains…

Friday, September 18th, 2009
Heading up into the mountains on a sunny day, and yet within about an hour it was raining and sleeting. Which was perfect weather for parking the bus on the side of the road at a scenic overlook and having family devotions.

This is a photo from earlier this week when we were in Colorado and were heading up into the mountains. Right now we're driving through the hills of Arkansas on our way to Little Rock for the conference tonight and tomorrow (I tried getting a few photos as we drove and will see if I have time to upload any).

The Last Hiking Morning

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

We woke up and heard from Dad that he thought we might actually need to head home today. We’ve just discovered a valve issue with one of our tanks. As Dad prayed and discussed it, he decided we would go hiking this morning, and then go down to Denver to an RV place to get what we need. We were all excited to do one last hike.

We settled for an easier several mile hike. Below are pictures! We’ll be posting a map soon with the different cities we’ll be going to on this trip. We hope to meet many of you.

Nine Mile Hike

Monday, September 14th, 2009

We had a wonderful day, hiking in God’s Creation! We had decided to do a nine mile hike, with an elevation gain of 2300 feet. As we progressed on the trail, we met quite a few people coming the opposite way, but not one passed us going our way. We found out later that the route we took was quite vigorous–it’s much easier if you start on the other end.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our long hike (although the girls had to trade around hiking boots a few times due to blisters). Our favorite thing to do is hike in the woods, and today we got a lot of it. We’ve decided to do a lighter hike tomorrow, and by late afternoon, we have to begin our descent to Kansas! We’ll be staying the night in the bus at a friend’s home outside of Denver.

Enjoy the pictures…

It’s now Sunday afternoon, and we have arrived at Rocky Mountain National Park, where we will be able to spend until Tuesday night, hiking and enjoying God’s incredible creation. This afternoon, we’ll have a special time of worship.

We’ll be sure to post pictures of our mountain time…
