I have to say how much this post made me smile. Thank you. We live in the UK, and last week were on holiday in the Lake District (mountains, but not so high as yours!) and we went walking. We covered 6 and a half miles and an elevation of about 2600ft. So, very similar to your walk. I really struggled with a past pregnancy induced pelvic joint problem on the way down. The children aged 9 and 10 were bouncing along, making me feel quite antique. At one point the pain was so bad I thought I might need Mountain Rescue to get me down. But, I managed it. Praise God. But, do you know the thought that made me manage to get down? It was that I couldn't face the Rescue people thinking that I was a silly, ill-prepared woman to climb that mountain in a skirt!! So, I smiled very heartily when I read your account and then saw your beautiful photos, and all the ladies in your family skirt-clad. Hooray! Thanks for the encouragement, and apologies for the looooonnng comment.

what a wonderful hike--your photos are beautiful (thank you to whoever is taking these. quite talented with a camera.)

i love to hike with my family. it is something we did a lot of as a family, and my children still do a lot of.

when you are in washington, on your winter tour, you will be near mt. rainier and the olympic mountains. the weather will be questionable, but you might be able to get a good walk in somewhere. we live in enumclaw, the plateau of mt. rainier. the mountain is what we see first thing every morning.

continued prayers as you travel.

blessings, mrs. mari

How wonderful to see your beautiful pictures of Colorado! You should take your best pictures from the year and put together a calendar and give them as Christmas presents. Ironically, I am traveling from NH to CO on Thursday for a writer's conference. So close! So close to the Maxwells! I vote you should have a conference in New England sometime soon. :)

Looks like you had favorable weather - what a blessing. I would've thought it would be cool during this time of the year in the mountains, but you're all dressed lightly so it must have been very pleasant. Have a safe trip back home. God bless.
-------
The temperatures were very nice. We had light fleece jackets, and there were only a few times on the hike we had to wear them. Often, short sleeves were just great.
