Scripture Print Closeout

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

We wanted to let you all know that we are discontinuing the Scripture Prints. They just haven’t sold much, and we are ready to clear them out. Perhaps it is because they aren’t framed, or it might simply be that people aren’t interested. Whatever the case, we have some stock that we are going to clear out as we discontinue the Scripture Prints.

If you are interested, please see this link or click on an individual print below. This offer is only good while our supplies last.

Love,
Sarah

PS – A Christmas blog post with pictures will be coming in the next few days.

Blessed Christmas Everyone!

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

Our family wishes you a very blessed Christmas. Even if our circumstances, our health, or our finances aren’t all that we may desire, the fact that God came to redeem fallen man is something to celebrate. God did what we can’t do on our own. He paid the penalty for our sins, and those who have received His gift of salvation have something for which to praise Him.

Even though it’s unlikely that December 25th is the day Jesus was actually born, may we join our hearts in worship of God the Father, Who poured out His grace in sending us Jesus.

We love you all and are thankful for the opportunity to be a part of your lives.

Those Rice Chex roof tiles are nice.

The fence is amazing.

Calvary Church.

This was no small church. Notice even the cross at the top.

The stained glass windows are very creative, and the icicles? Wow.

Gingerville Zoo. Quite a creative one. Notice the water is made of blue M&Ms.

Animals crackers make great animals. Nice cage too.

Gingerville Grocery Store. The gingerbread walls are sided with pretzel "logs." Notice the porch supports?

Nice red-hot Christmas lights.

What is a store without fruit?

Back door is for deliveries.

Mayor's House. Notice the snow blower out front?!

A bush made out of chow mein noodles.

I guess the mayor must have people over for s'mores and a bonfire.

JH Tower. Notice the Christmas lights going up it, as well as the flashing light on the top?

Lights here too.

A City Under Construction

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

This morning started early as we had some preparations for a special breakfast. We wanted to express our gratitude to the linemen that repair downed electrical lines. Dad and John made the delivery of muffins and milk about 7.

Then, mid-afternoon, everyone met in the kitchen and construction was begun on our mini gingerbread city, aka Gingerville. We will be posting pictures later of the finished product and let you all decide which is your favorite.

Love,
Sarah

Spreading Joy

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

Remember how I said now having the grandchildren added the cute factor to our Christmas caroling? Yes, that is true, but I had not taken into consideration that my two sweet little nieces are finishing out colds, and it would not be a good thing to have them outside much even on an unseasonably warm night. Abby and Nathan joined us for about fifteen minutes, but that was all they wanted her out. Anna also had a cold, so she drove the van from place to place and stayed in the van. She was sad to miss out, but after having a bad sinus infection a few weeks ago, she needed to be careful.

Sunday afternoon, we girls and Mom had a sweet time in the kitchen. Anna added finishing touches to her shortbread, Mom made fudge, and then we compiled boxes. Anna had carefully planned how much to put in each box of the different things made. We ended up having enough goodies for thirty-four boxes. The boxes contained: shortbread cookies, double-chocolate chip cookies, Andes mint cookies, Thin Mints, and Buckeyes.

About 5:15, we were ready to begin. The van had been loaded, we were lightly bundled, and our hearts were anxious to share with others. Sunday nights prove to be an effective time to catch people at home. House after house we shared through music, smiles, and a red-striped box.

I love to watch our listeners. Some of them get teary-eyed; some simply beam; some say they look forward to us coming each year; some ask the family how we are doing (or they say we are looking great), which affords opportunities to share about the new babies on the way; some ask if we are going on a trip soon; one had a present ready and waiting at the door for when we came; another quickly put together a container of goodies she planned to give us when we arrived.

It is such a delight to bring joy to others. We love our neighbors, and this yearly tradition has been one small way of showing our love. The evening was a real blessing for us as well.

Yes, it was a beautiful time!

Love,

Sarah

What We Have Been Preparing For

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

Anna and Mary, with some help from Anna Marie, have been investing many hours in baking to preparing for our night of caroling, which is to come very soon. We will post more details later, along with the compiling party, how the caroling went, and other interesting facts.

If your family has been thinking of caroling to your neighbors, but haven’t gone for it, it’s not too late! You don’t have to bring goodies along (although it is a nice “extra”), just smiling faces and a joyful noise. Caroling is a thing of the past, for the most part. When was the last time carolers were at YOUR door? I could count on one hand the number of times we have been caroled to. It’s something our neighbors love. Now, with the added grandchildren effect, we have the cute factor.

Merry Christmas!

Love,
Sarah

Mary, Anna Marie, and Anna

Yesterday afternoon, we girls made cards. It was great working as a team.

Christopher and Anna Marie stopped in, as Joseph was going to take their picture. Christopher grabbed a few pictures for us of our work.

The front of the card. A special thanks to Mrs. Kim C. for your inspiration on this card. Your cards have been incredible over the years, and it spurred us on to creativity.

We were watching the little girls this afternoon so Nathan and Melanie could have a special Christmas dinner out and time to shop. So, of course, we can't help but add this picture of Bethany Mary took.

“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people” (Luke 2:10).

Walk-Thru Bethlehem

Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

A church in town, Open Door, puts on a “Walk Thru Bethlehem” for three evenings in December. This is their second year, and they contacted us to see if we could do music one evening. While people wait to be taken on their tour of “Bethlehem,” they sit in the sanctuary and listen to music. So, our Maxwell Group (MG) had about an hour and a half on Saturday evening to share through music and testimony. The MG had worked extremely hard over the last few weeks arranging songs, practicing, and more practicing as we didn’t have any Christmas music that we normally play. I am very partial to their music myself.

The night arrived, and we wanted to experience the walk thru before music. I wasn’t expecting anything very big, but I was completely shocked by it all. It really felt like a scene in the Bible times. We had a guide, Benjamin, someone we’ve known for many years, who did an excellent job of being very real-to-the time while taking us through the city of Bethlehem. Every single part was stunningly well done. If you’re in the Kansas City area next year, you really should plan to attend the Walk Thru Bethlehem.

So, about 6:30, the MG was up. It was a delightful thing to listen to them share through beautifully arranged songs and personal testimonies. Abby even joined her aunts and uncles singing Silent Night. Our whole family was there, including the married brothers, and Grandad and GiGi.

I have to say that my favorite spot was in the back of the sanctuary. I could observe those listening, and the MG was a well-appreciated group. We were grateful for the opportunity to share with those the Lord brought!

Afterward, Christopher and Anna Marie had us over for snacks. It was a delightful time of talking about the evening!

Christmas is a special time of the year, but may we all remember to lift those up in prayer who are hurting: those who have lost a loved one, who are experiencing major trials, who are facing health challenges, and so much more.

Love,
Sarah

Abby sang "Silent Night", and Mary sang lead. I guess Anna was Abby's emotional support.

Cute Rice Krispy treats.

Our friend, Jonathan D. from Idaho, has been out. He had some business in Nebraska, and he was with us up in Omaha, and also Saturday.

The two John's enjoying floats!

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11).

It was a weekend of music

Monday, December 12th, 2011

Friday, we went up to the Omaha area to do music at my grandma’s care home. We left home to no snow and arrived in the area with six inches! On our way up, we saw many, many vehicles that had gone off the road the night before, when the snow had started. The vehicles had been abandoned and were just waiting for tow trucks to clear them out.

It was a joy to share with those there through music and testimony. Since we had just been in April, I think some of them remembered us, and we had a good group of about 30 residents, plus some of the staff came too. Joseph, John, Anna, Jesse, and Mary shared a number of Christmas songs, beautifully arranged, interspersed with their testimonies. In addition, it was a great practice run for Saturday evening’s event. A post will be coming soon on that!

Being at care homes frequently reminds me of the frailty of life. Some may live long and experience the affects of aging, but some may live only a short time. As we look forward to this Christmas season, are you prepared to step into eternity? It is not a question to wait to settle. For if you wait until eternity to deal with your sin, it is too late.

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation” (Hebrews 9:27-28).

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed” (Romans 10:9-11).

Sarah

MOTH Book Processing

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Monday morning, Anna Marie, Mary, Jenny (a friend), and I processed MOTH books. We had a sweet time as we talked and worked. In addition, it is a great feeling of accomplishment as the boxes stack up on a pallet. Thank you, girls (and Junior, right Anna Marie :-) ?!), for all your help.

We frequently receive testimonies about Managers of Their Homes.
Here’s one:

“Thank you so much for this book! It has been extremely helpful. Not only do I have 3 children of my own, but I also watch 2 children. So I have 5 children 4 and under. My oldest has begun kindergarten this year. Using the schedule has made the days run smoothly. Everything is getting done (even the laundry!). I am not a schedule person. But it doesn’t seem like a schedule as much when I am the one planning the day!” Jamie

Anna Marie, me, Jenny, and Mary (thanks, Anna, for the picture!).

Anna was keeping us company, too, as she was doing the Titus2 orders that morning.

Moody Book Party

Saturday, December 3rd, 2011

We had a delightful evening last night, celebrating the completion of Winter Days. We seriously contemplated everyone “being” a Moody character. However, a blog post of the celebration would have given you a “picture” of some of the characters. I have purposely left how each person in the Moody book looks up to your imagination. So, we opted not to do that part.

About 4 p.m., Abby came over to help Aunt Anna make the dessert. Abby is an enthusiastic Moody supporter. Her Daddy reads them aloud to her, after Bible time, since she can’t read yet, and it is a daily, looked-forward-to event for Abby. They’re reading Winter (book #3) at the moment.

Our dinner menu consisted of chicken (Dad barbecued it), broccoli in cheese sauce, seasoned roasted potatoes, home-made garlic bread, and then for dessert: cookie dough pizza, a specialty from our friends, the D. family in Idaho.

When dinner dishes were completed, we gathered in the living room for Bible time, following which was a prayer time. Praying gave us sweet moments of lifting up this book and asking that the Lord would use it in the lives of many.

Then, it was time for hide n’ seek. After all, the Moodys play it. For those who haven’t read the books, the hide and seek is done in the dark to make it a bit more challenging. I had no idea how creative my family was on finding good hiding spots. For example, they don’t hide BESIDE the dresser. No, they pull it out and go behind it. Nathan, Abby, and John were never found–pretty amazing! Abby did a great job of not giggling even when the “looker” was in the room where she was.

I am deeply indebted and grateful to my family for all they have invested in each book. They spend countless hours listening to me read the outline and then the book itself, and several help with editing, before it goes to the professional proofreader. They encourage me when I feel it’s too much, or I can’t finish it out.

The mailman delivered a letter yesterday (among other pieces of mail): with three sweet drawings from two Moody book readers. Thank you, Hannah and Sarah!

Love,
Sarah

Uncle John joined the baking duo for a few minutes.

Abby was a wonderful helper.

The finished cookie dough pizza! We'll not be sharing the recipe now. It might go in a future Moody book.

Bethany carried a little, word-free book with pictures of puppies around to different members of the family. She would toddle over to them, with book in hand, and want them to "read" it to her.
