Thursday, October 6th, 2011Charlotte’s Conference
Monday, October 3rd, 2011Guest poster today. This is John to give Sarah a bit of a break from conference reports.
We only had a two hour drive on Friday, so we didn’t leave until close to noon. So far this trip has been the slow down trip. Going into Charlotte proved to be no exception. At one point traffic slowed to a crawl. We finally made it through the slow down, and arrived at the church driveway just before 2.
As you all saw in the previous post, the driveway to the church was very tight. It wouldn’t have been such a problem if there was not a deep ditch on either side of the driveway. Later we found out that firetrucks have a tough time getting into that church. Firetrucks are usually shorter than we are and have a better turning radius. Oh well, we made it in okay, and had a good place to park for the night.
After set up, we ate dinner. Some of the ladies from the local homeschool group made the meal. I don’t know if North Carolina qualifies as the south (in my book it does), but that southern cooking was fantastic. Personally, I would rank it as one of the best on-the-road meals, that we have had.
The conference itself was a blessing. We had a good group of folks show up. I admit, although a bit stoic in the beginning, they warmed up in the end. The young people were attentive, and we had a good time.
Overall hearts seemed to be open to the message, and the Lord blessed.
For dinner on Saturday, we went out with a family that we have known for several years. Don’t ask me where we ate, because I don’t remember. The important part was, I liked the food, and the fellowship.
That is all for this time, folks.
John for the rest.
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7)
Uriah Makes It In
Friday, September 30th, 2011The highway the Charlotte church is on is very busy, and we couldn’t make the turn to get across the highway as it was on the opposite side of a divided road. So, we had to find a way to turn around and come back the opposite direction.
There are two driveways to the church. One was obviously not going to work, with trees, and the second one, well, was very narrow with a ditch on both sides making it difficult to get in. The first attempt our wheel was too close to the edge of the ditch so we stopped, and Dad got out to assess the situation.
We would need to temporarily block both lanes of traffic to straighten out and come into the drive on a more direct route. Thankfully, there was a traffic light about a half mile up the road and so the cars were grouped with a space in between.
Joseph and Jesse walked up the road to flag cars down in the event there wasn’t sufficient time to complete the maneuver.
When the break occurred, it was almost enough time and only the lead vehicles had to be delayed briefly.
All is well. Thank You, Lord Jesus.

Huntsville Report
Wednesday, September 28th, 2011We arrived at the church Monday about 3:15. We saw some tornado damage as we neared the area, and our hearts were sad for those who have gone through much loss of property and life over the recent months.
Our memories from the prior year, of the same church, included Christopher. We miss him (since he got married last October), but we are thrilled with the wife the Lord has given him (love ya, Anna Marie!). Christopher lost his Thermos at this same place the prior year. It was his trusted cold water bottle at home and on trips. No other Thermos could quite replace it. He asked us to check if the church had a lost and found, if possibly that Thermos could be there. As I was walking through the gym, my eye caught sight of his Thermos, on an obvious lost and found shelving section. I couldn’t believe it. It still has water in it, and the top was dusty. So, Christopher, you have your Thermos back. Well, when we get home in four weeks!
Our coordinators had also arranged the conference last year, and they have been friends of ours for a number of years. We were able to spend some time fellowshipping with them beforehand and also at dinner. They provided a delicious dinner of BBQ venison, mashed potatoes, rolls, salad, and dessert. It was great!
We gave some different sessions than we normally would on an evening conference. We saw several families who have attended in prior years, so that was wonderful. The parents were especially attentive and interested in what was shared. The young people seemed to enjoy their sessions as well.
Time and time again, we see the Lord answer prayers. For example, we’ve had several close calls accident wise. Monday, a truck pulling a camper, strayed into our lane, and nearly hit us. Sometimes, those situations feel like slow motion as Dad brakes hard, honks to try to alert the other driver, and as everyone watches the vehicle come within a few inches of the bus. Oh yes, you also hold onto your computer and brace yourself (for an impact or a hard stop?!). After that, you’re left feeling shaky, but praising the Lord for His protection! Dad is so amazing in knowing what to do with tough situations. We often tell Dad what an incredible job he does.
We are so grateful for you all standing with us prayer. We need the support as it truly is a spiritual battle.
Love,
Sarah

Prayer for Mary
Tuesday, September 27th, 201110:30 P.M. update: We just pulled into our RV park for the night. A blog reader’s husband is an ophthalmologist, and he offered his assistance over the phone. The doctor gave Dad some excellent suggestions. He helped us with what to watch out for and some other ideas for her. We stopped at a second W-M and got some products the doctor recommended. Hopefully Mary can sleep well tonight.
——-
This afternoon, Mary got something in her eye. We’ve carefully looked at it and rinsed it, but the problem is still there. Her eye continues to water and ache. We are going to be stopping at a Wal-Mart soon for some special eye drops. If that doesn’t work, we will be taking her to an eye doctor tomorrow. Please pray that whatever it is will get taken care of quickly. We are grateful for your prayers!
Love,
Sarah

Restful Night
Monday, September 26th, 2011We had a great night’s sleep, and we’ll be heading out soon for Huntsville.

Sarah

On Our Way
Sunday, September 25th, 2011It’s a delightful autumn day. The leaves are beginning to turn, and the temperature is pleasant.
Today, we had a sweet time of worship, and when we came home, we finished last minute things. Christopher and Anna Marie made us a delicious lunch of tacos, and while Dad napped, the rest of us went over to eat. Dad joined us when he got up.
We left home about 2. Our plan is to drive to Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Tomorrow, we’ll finish out the drive to Huntsville.
This week’s schedule is Huntsville (Harvest) Monday evening, Mt. Airy, North Carolina, Thursday evening, and Charlotte, Friday and Saturday.
We have been covering this trip in prayer, and we would be grateful for those of you who would do the same. We desire to be used of the Lord at home or on the road.
Love,
Sarah
“Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.” –Philippians 1:27
St. Louis
Monday, September 19th, 2011We arrived in the area about 1:45 p.m. Friday. Bus got parked uneventfully, and Dad and I went on the “lay of the land” tour (aka scouting out the facility). After figuring out where each session would be, we were thrilled to see our friends, the coordinators, and two more friends show up. We spent the afternoon fellowshipping, setting up, doing music practice, and the dads prayed.
Then, Friday, during dinner, low and behold, Nathan, Melanie, and the girls come in! There was definitely much excitement and chatter that ensued.
The group that came for last weekend’s conference was simply put: incredible. The girls were one of the most attentive groups we have ever had, which made it such a pure delight. The guys were great too. The parents also were attentive and had open hearts.
We always have many stories to tell each other after a conference–and this one it seemed the stories and talk went on for so long. Even though we were physically drained (that’s normal as we push hard), our spirits were extremely blessed. It makes the anticipation for the next trip even higher after such a great conference!
Lots to do between now and Sunday afternoon.
Love,
Sarah
When Nathan introduced Abby, he asked her to say “hello.” Her very enthusiastic “Hewwo!” caused a warm response from the group. On an impromptu whim, we asked Abby to recite several verses she has memorized from 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. Without any inkling of being shy, she recited it beautifully. It was precious. The enthusiasm she received when she was finished was also sweet.

We had to do some room switch-arounds. Can you believe the number of young people exceeded the parents at this conference? It was true.

Abi and I--she illustrated the last two Moody books, and we're about to begin on Winter Days illustrations. Abi does an awesome job!

Before we drove home, Dad took a nap, as he had woken up early Saturday, and we ordered pizza in for supper.
At the end, our coordinators gave us an amazing gift. They had a beautiful, framed plaque with a Scripture verse in the middle, and in the mat, most of the families who had attended the conference, signed and/or wrote us a note. It will be such a treasure. Thank you all!
“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.” Romans 16:24
General Happenings
Wednesday, September 14th, 2011Okay, it’s been awhile since we’ve done a “normal” post, but it’s not because we haven’t been doing anything. Quite on the contrary. Things have been very busy with Mom’s new book, other projects, preparing the bus to be road-worthy, Titus2 projects, school, work, Corners, etc.
So, here’s our plan. We leave for St. Louis Friday morning, and we’ll be doing set up, music practice, and conference prep in the afternoon. The conference will be Friday evening and Saturday. Saturday night we’ll head back home. We will have a week, then, before we hit the road for four weeks. You can see our schedule for the stops we have right now.
Love,
Sarah
When doing some routine bus maintenance, John discovered a fan has gone out–this is at least the third time. But, it was a huge blessing we were home and not on the road. So, we had to get it replaced.

Jon D., from Idaho, had business in a nearby state, so he flew into Kansas City and stayed the weekend with us. We really enjoyed having him.

Dad’s 60th Surprise
Monday, August 8th, 2011For weeks now, we’ve been planning a very special birthday surprise for Dad. After all, you only turn 60 once
. Amazingly, the surprise was a surprise, and he was shocked. Mom gets the prize for how carefully she kept the secret, and that was with walking with Dad every day (except for Sunday), and managing to not slip with her words!
It will take a little while to process all the pictures taken between yesterday and today, so for now, I’ll leave you with a few. We went to Springfield, Missouri yesterday, and then enjoyed a wildlife drive-thru safari park today. More later.
Love,
Sarah
“For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name” (Psalms 33:21).
We had an available evening…
Thursday, August 4th, 2011and so we decided to do music at another retirement home in town! Jesse was to have five wisdom teeth removed this morning (which went well, and he is recovering at home now), so we knew he wouldn’t be up to much singing for a little while, and our schedule has been pretty full lately, so we opted for last night at 6. The elderly were just finishing up dinner, and quite a few of them moved into the “living room” area to listen. We enjoyed having our friends, the C. family, join us, along with Christopher and Anna Marie, Grandad and Grandma, and Nathan, Melanie, and the girls!
The elderly loved the music, testimonies, and interactions with our group. It was a joy to be able to share!
Love,
Sarah
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalms 23:1).
Chore Books
Monday, July 11th, 2011After snapping many ChorePacks, the next step is compiling. This year, twice, we’ve had help from our friends, Dave and Liz, and it just made the Chore books go much quicker. Well, Dave and Liz don’t live locally, so that won’t work for every time. Our dear friends, who also take care of our Titus2 shipping for us when we’re away, said they would like to help.
Saturday morning, part of their family came over for a Chore book party. We were a definite mean machine with nine working. It went fast!

We had a team of four compiling, one handing to the shrink-wrapper, the shrink-wrapper, a packaging person, a restocking person, and two paper guys.
Thanks, C. Family!

The Lord Provides
Sunday, July 10th, 2011I should not be amazed at the Lord’s provision at the right time for the Moody books, but I am. I officially started writing about two weeks ago, and it’s progressing well. The day before I was to start, “something” happened, that was exactly what I needed to experience for the book. It was so perfect. I’ll leave you with a picture, but I won’t explain what happened. You’ll have to read Winter Days to find out. The bus continues to be a wonderful place for me to write; although this time, instead of running heaters, the air conditioners are running.
Love,
Sarah

The Clock Is Ticking
Thursday, June 16th, 2011As the children grow older and then marry, we realize that our days of holding Maxwell family conferences are limited. It takes a lot of manpower to put on a family conference, and we don’t presume that our children will always be available to travel and help. Also, there is the issue of maintaining the bus and how long that is available to us is not a given. We aren’t at the point of not traveling yet, it may be years in the future, but this is a good time to mention we likely won’t be hosting them for years and years.
We have held so many conferences over the last ten years, and we have photos on our digital picture frame reminding us of the cities where we have been and the people we have met. All of that is to say that we really don’t know when our last season of travel will be. So I want to share that if you have wanted to host a Maxwell family conference, weekend or single evening, you ought to consider it soon. We are heading east this fall, and the weekends are just about scheduled, but there are a lot of single evenings available.
We don’t charge anything to come, and in return we ask that you find a facility that will allow the conference to be held and publicize by email to the homeschool groups in your area. We have an information e-mail we send out when anyone inquires that goes into those details.
If the Lord has enabled us to cover all of the cities where there is interest, then Amen! If not, I would encourage you to contact us. We love being home, but if the Lord has hearts for us to speak to on the road, then that is our desire.
Steve
“So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also” (Romans 1:15).
What Do You Think Grandad?
Saturday, June 11th, 2011It couldn’t have been a more beautiful morning in Kansas. Grandad and I had just finished a walk together, and we were sitting in a couple of lawn chairs out in front of their house. In making conversation, I shared how there were a couple of people who reacted to our including the mention of aborted babies in our Memorial Day post. I asked Grandad what he thought about it.
Grandad is a eighty-year-old, decorated, retired Army officer, and he was wounded in Vietnam. I had asked him a few minutes earlier if he would like me to put the U.S. Flag out. He said yes, and that he missed having it out every day. He loves his country and served his country with all he had. With that background, he looked at me, gave me a thumbs up and said, “Great idea! It was good to mention them.”
We believe God has called Titus2 to “equip, exhort and encourage” believers in the Lord Jesus Christ to a walk that is pleasing to our Lord. As we endeavor to do that, we have seen that there are those who disagree with what we share. While our flesh would have everyone like us, we know what we share will not make everyone happy. As a result, we have at times received negative and even harsh criticism from those who disagree with us. It is especially troublesome to those who disagree with us and want to express their views on our blog that we choose not to approve their posts.
We feel that the Lord will hold us accountable for what is shared via our website. This is a blog and not a public forum. The purpose is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and be salt and light to a lost and dying world. Our heart’s desire is to please Him. Will we make mistakes in the process? I’m sure, but the only way to make a mistake is to do something. We believe it’s worth the risk.

Good news for Julie and Grace!
Wednesday, June 8th, 2011I received a sweet envelope in the mail yesterday–it was so cute, I had to take a picture before opening it. It was from a young lady, Julie, who enjoys the Moody books. She said it would be great if I could write more. Good news, Julie, and all of the other Moody readers! Winter Days will be soon in process. Lord willing, I hope to start arranging the ideas in outline form next week, and praying hard for the Lord’s direction for this book. Julie also mentioned that they made Grammies, a recipe in the book. Not too long ago, I received the cutest letter from a four year old named Grace. That one melted me too.
In addition, yesterday, I received an encouraging note from a dear mom of many who has been reading Autumn Days each day after breakfast. You all truly help keep the desire to write burning!
Some of you have noticed the new blog header. That’s thanks to Joseph’s design skills and Christopher’s photography (Sunday night we did a photo shoot).
Love,
Sarah

ITonRamp Ramps Up
Monday, May 30th, 2011It’s been exciting to see ITonRamp.com taking shape. Countless hours are being poured into it. The first class starts in about 9 days, and students are continuing to enroll. Anna, our up and coming book designer, has been laying out the Home Track book, and it looks excellent. Her last few days have been consumed with coming up with the design and then implementing it. It is a detailed projected, since it involves quite a bit of special formatting.
Nathan’s office/studio is almost done. The work was begun because he needed a room that provided significant background sound reduction. In a home with two growing young girls there will be times when happy life would be picked up by a microphone and would be distracting to those taking the class. We didn’t want the distraction nor the girls to have to be quiet while the video was in process.
Joseph has invested heavily in the whole IToR process, from the office to the website. This past week, Joseph built the countertop and finished all the wood trim. The carpet will be installed this week, and then there are only a few final touches.
May your Memorial Day holiday, whether you spend it with family or friends, be filled with the joy and love of our Lord Jesus Who gave His life for our eternal life. May we also remember those soldiers who have given their lives that we might live in a free country. May we also remember that over 3,000 babies’ lives will be terminated due to legal abortions in our country in one day.

Saturday
Thursday, May 19th, 2011Saturday morning, before the convention opened, Anna and I went in and inventoried what we might need for the day so John could restock. Mom’s session, From Chaos to Peace, was scheduled for 9 a.m. and was almost full.
Dad’s Preparing Sons session, which was in the afternoon, was out of standing room in the back! I love to hear Dad share his heart with those who come.
Even though Mom only had one session in the morning, she stayed busy, talking, almost all day, to ladies who would stop by and want to chat.
When 5 o’clock rolled around, it was time to pack out our booth. Two of our friends’ sons, Tyler and Carter, helped, and I think that’s why we made such record timing.
Having the opportunity to share at the CHAP convention was a blessing!

We’re Home!
Wednesday, May 18th, 2011We arrived safely home a little after 11 a.m. Thank you so much for praying! I know I have several updates to catch you upon, which I will do over the next few days.

Home is Close
Wednesday, May 18th, 2011We are now a few hours from home, with an estimated arrival of before noon. It’s a beautiful, blue-sky day, with cool temperatures. We are rejoicing over the opportunities the Lord gave us this trip to share.
We took a “Uriah-gets-a-drink-stop” a little while ago. Now that he’s set, we’ll complete the final leg of the drive.
Thanks for praying!

The Easiest Fix Yet
Tuesday, May 17th, 2011We’re on our way again. Here’s what happened. There was a cap that failed that was on an unused oil port in a very obscure hard to see and reach position. John was able to find it and use a steel epoxy to plug ite.
We will stop by a Detroit Diesel shop to pick up some more oil in about an hour. We are about 7 or 8 hours from home, but we plan to stop on the west side of St. Louis tonight.
Thanks for praying!
Sarah
“That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ” (1 John 1:3).
Unexpected Twist
Tuesday, May 17th, 2011We stopped at a rest area for a few minute break, and I got out with Mary to get a few pictures.
And, I saw John checking the bus over. When we came back inside, he told Dad we had an oil leak, and it is significant. So, we’re figuring out what to do. The local shop is busy until next week. So, maybe we can cap it and figure out if there’s a way to limp home. We shall see. Please pray!
Love,
Sarah

Thursday and Friday
Tuesday, May 17th, 2011Thursday morning dawned, and we felt rested and ready for the weekend. Instead of parking at a church, our home sweet home was the Farm Show parking lot.
Mid-morning, we found our booths and went to work. It seemed pretty simple to set up, and after the guys had trucked in the boxes, we girls did our part.
Dad and Mom spent a lot of their time Thursday revising their sessions, since most of their sessions are generally an hour, and the workshop time slots were 45 minutes. We were delighted that our friends from New Hampshire took the time and effort to come and see us at the CHAP convention. We had hoped to work it out to visit them, but since it didn’t, they came to us! We went out with them for dinner Thursday evening.
Now, to Friday. The convention opened at 8 a.m., and it was exciting to see the lines of people as they checked in or registered for the first time.
Dad and Mom’s Hearts session was at 9 a.m.
At first, people steadily came in, but there was plenty of empty spots. But, before long, the room was packed, and many couldn’t get in due to being out of space. John grabbed a picture on his phone.
Mom gave Chores at 12, and I already posted a few pictures from that.
Dad’s session was in a different room that afternoon, and it was also stuffed, even using the standing space.
Mom’s Meek and Quiet session was extremely well received. After the chairs were filled, ladies sat on the floor, lined the walls, and stood in the two doorways! It was so full ladies couldn’t get in to the session.

There was a constant flow through the booth. You'll probably notice Joseph on his computer. He was still working on ITonRamp things as he was able.
We also had the occasional visitor into the booth, who took a chair next to Dad or Mom to talk for awhile. It is our joy and delight to be able to be an encouragement in whatever way we can.
Since there are eight of us, we had many different and varied conversations with people throughout the day, especially with the many people who came by our booth. I was excited to meet twin sisters who came from out of state to attend the CHAP convention. We talked to quite a few blog readers too. It was a full and wonderful day, sharing with those the Lord brought our way.
Love,

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011Here are a few pictures of the Pennsylvania landscape, taken yesterday. I’m working on blog posts from the weekend. We would be grateful for your prayers for traveling safety as we journey home. We’re currently outside of Columbus, Ohio.
