Before writing this book, we took a chore survey, and hundreds of families responded to our request for information on their experience with chores. Response after response revealed the lifelong benefits of chores or the long-term consequences of not having chores. Most would view the question of whether their children do chores or not as a simple parental-preference decision. However, when we saw how the vast majority of those surveyed indicated that chores were crucial to their preparation for being a parent, a chore book took on a whole new urgency for us.

Many questions arise as families look at the issue of chores: Should children be expected to do chores? How many chores should they have? What age do we begin assigning chores? How do we encourage our children to accomplish their work? Is there a biblical basis for chores? Do chores bring benefits or burdens to our children? Managers of Their Chores tackles these questions, giving answers and direction.

Written by parents of eight, Managers of Their Chores begins with the biblical foundation for chores and the many benefits chores will bring to a child -- both now and in the future. It moves into key factors in parents' lives that will affect a chore system. The book gives pertinent information about what kinds of chores should reasonably be done in a home with children.

One chapter is devoted to helping moms work with their preschoolers on chores. For those moms who say they have no idea where to even begin, the book develops various pieces of a chore system and how it can be set up. Aspects of accountability, rewards, and consequences are addressed. Finally, Managers of Their Chores provides step-by-step directions for setting up a ChorePack chore system.
