Sarah Maxwell's two books about the Moody family provide hours of good reading for young children. Though the books are targeted for ages 6 to 12, my two-year-old was surprisingly engaged and my five-year-old followed the story lines nicely.

Strong relationships are apparent in the lives of the Moody family members: sibling to sibling, children to parents, and parents to children. There is constant communication, family outings and projects, and respect, both in action and speech. I believe this aspect is non-existent in many books available for this age group.
