Following is the preface to Summer with the Moodys.
Preface
Through
the years, we have seen a need for godly reading material for children
books that display good role models with families working together serving the
Lord. When Mom would have discussions with Grandma Jan about our struggle to find
wholesome reading books, Grandma Jan would always say we should just write our
own. Finally, in the summer of 2002, with my parents encouragement, the
idea for this book was born. My
family played a very key part in this book!
Dad
patiently edited the book and listened when I wanted to talk book stuff
with him. Mom gave up many hours to go through each chapter of the book and edit
it. My parents cheered me on when I felt like quitting, and they spent many hours
discussing characters, setting, and plot.
Christopher,
my older brother by two years, took me out for dinner several times to help with
the outline of my book. After it was written, he spent hours patiently editing
the book with me. Without his great investment of time, this book would not be
what it is. His incredible creative imagination added a lot of spark!
Joseph,
my younger (but much taller!) brother by seven years, gave many hours to help
me with different aspects. I would have been lost without his computer help! He
also designed the cover, which was not an easy task.
My
other younger siblings John, Anna, Jesse, and Mary were great. They
never tired of listening to me read portions of the book aloud and were always
quick to add suggestions of ways to improve the book. They were good at pointing
out parts of the story that were contradictory!
I
also want to thank my Gram for illustrating this book. She spent many hours and
did such a great job!
My
grandparents, Grandad Rex and Grandma Jan, were also incredibly supportive throughout
the whole process. Whenever I talked with them about it, I came away with a renewed
zeal!
A
team of eighteen volunteer families tested this book before it went
into print. Thank you
all so much for your willingness, comments, and suggestions! My sister-in-law,
Melanie Maxwell, also read the book and gave helpful comments.
I
am most indebted to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Without Him, life would
be meaningless. I love You, Jesus!
I
pray that this book would be a blessing to your family!
Joyfully
His, Sarah Maxwell
